Curated by Kahlil Khalil, this year’s Warm Up brings together a true Portland Band of Brothahood, the powerhouse lineup of Mighty, Swiggle Mandela, Kahlil Khalil and DJ Solo. This night is all about the positive party vibrations, showcasing Rose City rep of West Coast Hip-Hop/Rap, True MC Stylistics, Turnt Up Trap, Dancehall/ Reggae, and Afrobeat Booty-Shaking Good Times late into the evening.
Kahlil Khalil - Raised up by many artists in the Portland Reggae, Hip-Hop, Soul/Funk, & Rock scene, Kahlil Khalil’s sound embodies the culture and sonic landscape of “West Coast meets West Indies.” Kahlil’s debut E.P Hustle Vision was featured on the NBA 2K22 soundtrack and he is credited on Young Thug’s 2021 Punk album. An audio engineer/music producer for YSL’s LA studio, he’s worked alongside some of the industry’s most successful artists, fine-tuning his song-writing and performing craft. For this year’s Warm Up, K2 is debuting unreleased songs and bringing a live band featuring Tony Ozier, Dennis Dove & Parker Howell, plus a whole crew of guest artists to help turn things up.
Swiggle Mandela - Swiggle Mandela is one of the most well known and beloved Hip-Hop artists from PDX, performing regularly at local venues and breaking onto the national scene. His music is about love and unity, encouraging and fun while also serious and deep. By the age of 20 Swiggle had opened for Dead Prez, D12, and Immortal Technique and has worked with world famous artists like Westside Boogie and Jim Jones. With a passion for video production, he has over 50 music videos released. Whether it’s performing in venues, going into schools, or talking to incarcerated youth, Swiggle Mandela values mentorship of young artists and aims to make the world a better place for the next generation.
Mighty - Mighty (a.k.a. Mathias Mauk) is a mainstay in the Portland rap scene. His fast flowing and clever bars share commentary and wisdom, often pulled from his own upbringing. Mighty has toured the country extensively and has built a cult following for his unique brand of storytelling. He is as much an advocate for his community as he is for his music. Each year, he hosts a non-profit event providing shoes to kids for their first day of school, landing sponsors including Jordan Brand, Timberland and Microsoft among many others.
DJ Solo -DJ Solo, community leader and entrepreneur, is the founder of Afrobeat PDX. A Ghanaian-born, Portland-based DJ known for his skills and abilities to bridge people from different cultural backgrounds, his dance parties are pure fire! He has shared the stage with international artists Jidenna, Wizkid, Kranium, Gyptian, and is a true Cultural Ambassador.
